Expected UK IPhone 5 Prices

Contrary to reports of many technological changes to the new iPhone release, the iPhone 5, reports say that the opening price will not change.

iPhone 5 Nano?

So far, reports include an “iPhone 5 nano”, a mini version, as well as a change to Qualcomm internals, a metal backing, a white cosmetic appearance, edge-to-edge touchscreen display, a new antenna, and a pending patent application by Apple for a digital wallet software accessible from the main menu via a new icon. This leads to a question about UK iPhone 5 prices.

  • Early Indications?

Early reports indicate a smaller, more compact iPhone prototype exists, providing a possibility that the new iPhone 5 may be fulfilling the need for a miniature version of the iPhone for users who desire a smaller phone with the power, functionality, and uniqueness provided by owning an iPhone, decidedly for the purpose of competition with Android.

Android has providing similar features, if not better, into a smaller unit for users that need a smaller phone option. Android has been exceeding Apple in the smartphone market lately, creating the need for Apple to stay on top of the technological advances. Many technology websites are referring to this new release as a possible “iPhone nano”.

GreentrustUK, a rather obscure mobile phone provider, has issued a claim that a deal has been reached with O2 business to offer UK’s first iPhone 5 contract. Pre-orders of the phone have also apparently been accepted, even though the release date is not expected until June or July of 2011 at the earliest.

Those who choose to preorder through O2 will get the new Apple iPhone 5 as soon as it is available but have to deal with the 16GB iPhone 4 until the new model is available and an exchange will be made.

  • Green Trust and Orange

Greentrust also indicated that a deal is in the works with Orange Business and early sales are booming.

The cost of the contract is £40 per month. A spokesperson for the site says that the expected release date is due in June or early July 2011 and that this offer is for the best available full version of the iPhone 5.

  • Pay as you Go

GreenTrust also offers the option to pay £195 to secure an iPhone 5 (at a maximum of two units) from the first batch and when the price is confirmed, which would be approximately 14 days before dispatch. Completion of sale would occur when the difference in price is paid off. Payment can be made by Google Checkout, although details on the site make it seem a bit shady. At least this is an indication that UK iPhone 5 prices are not expected to change.

Speculations On IPhone 5 Prices

With talks about the iPhone 5 reaching an ever-increasing pitch, people are naturally speculating on how much this new unit will cost.

Unfortunately, with even the official release date being debated, iPhone 5 prices can only be at best, estimated. There are, however, a few factors being accounted for in these estimates, which are as follows:

  • The VAT

Rising taxes usually mean a corresponding rise in the prices of most products, including electronics. In the UK, the VAT has recently risen to 20 percent. Therefore, it has been speculated that the iPhone 5 will be more expensive than previously thought.

  • The competition

One of the primary movers of market price is the performance of competing brands. In recent years, the price of iPhone comparable brands has become lower, while retaining and even improving their features. Therefore, a lot of talk has circulated that Apple will lower its price, possibly reaching as low as £120.

  • Product placement

Virtually all of Apple’s devices have been especially geared to cater to a more affluent crowd. However, it has been revealed by Apple’s COO Mr. Tim Cook that the company is now looking to expand its market base, moving away from its exclusive image and catering to the masses. This resulted in speculations that the iPhone 5 prices will be much lower than previously thought.

  • Contract Mobile Phone deals

The Apple iPhone 5 deals. While it may not affect the price that Apple plans to give to the product, it will eventually affect the actual price that consumers will experience in the UK. With deals like contract mobile phones, sim free deals, pay as you go and others, provided by leading networks like O2, Orange, and Vodafone, iPhone 5 prices will surely be more affordable.

However, with all these factors being set, the most important price determinant would have been consumer response. In spite of whatever features that will ultimately be implemented, if the consumers will not be willing to pay for it, then the price will have to be set lower by Apple, if the changes will not be too radical from the iPhone 4, representing a so-called evolutionary upgrade, as opposed to a revolutionary one.

  • Speculative Costs

Some consumers have expressed a minimum estimate of about £185, and a maximum estimate of about £300 – £500, depending on the actual specs. However, it has to be repeated that all of these iPhone 5 prices remain speculative. Let us see which factors would eventually play out.
